EXTRA, EXTRA - I.C.C. APPROVES MERGER!! The wedding of Jan Genung and Ronald Kutch will take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church (3321 33rd at Indiana) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, and we are all invited. While they are planning a wedding trip, Jan would disclose only that it will not be on the Orient Express or even Amtrak!

January 8 meeting -- 7:30 p.m. in the Activities Center of the Highland Baptist Church at 34th and Quaker. The new officers will be presented, along with the entire Board of Directors for 1996.

1996 Board of Directors -- At the December meeting, the following members were elected to the board: Henry Crawford; Jerry Dukes; Jan Genung; Dr. T. H. Holmes; Rip Maples; Gregory Motte; Don Payne; Ron Pederson; and Ken Riediger. Nancy Reed will continue as "President Emeritus" or "Deadwood."

New Members -- We got a little side-tracked in this but we do want to welcome Andy Anderson, Tom Reynolds and Homer Morrow aboard.

Bob Batson reports that on a recent trip to Clovis, he was quite pleased to learn that the old Santa Fe Depot has been turned into a hobby shop with interesting layouts. James and Julie Aldrich tell our roving reporter that the layouts include British, Australian, tin plate and Lionel trains. The hobby shop is small so far but the layouts are well worth a visit. Upstairs is a Museum and gift shop. The property goes right up to the tracks and the fence has been lowered to make photographing the trains easier. So on your next railfan trip, schedule a stop at the Santa Fe Depot.

SCIENCE SPECTRUM TAKEDOWN -- Please mark your calendars for Saturday, January 6. Beginning around 10:00 a.m. we will be dismantling the modules at the Science Spectrum. We have all weekend to get everything packed up and moved out.

Don't forget those dues! Dues for 1996 are $12.00 per individual; $18.00 per family. See Jerry Dukes to be sure you are "in good standing"! And if you are not receiving the newsletter, check with Jerry to verify the club roster.

From the Observation Car: 1995 was a good year for the LMRA. I wish to thank all members of the Board and those who put in extra hours to make our various projects a success. Vice-President Bob Batson kept our programs on track and also started a new project when he showed trains at the Lubbock Village to a very appreciative audience. Bob also earned a Presidential citation for preparing the Lubbock Western Railroad decals and getting "our" train on track! And then Jim McCartney sent several box cars to a friend in Germany to expand our railroad line considerably. Jim is also to be thanked for preparing the description of the modules on display during the holidays at the Science Spectrum. His write-up certainly conveys the enthusiasm we all share for the hobby. Secretary Don Warren took thorough minutes of both the Board meetings and the club meetings, providing us with a detailed record of the year's activities. Jerry Dukes maintained our treasury records down to the last penny, collected dues, and paid all of our bills. Neil Burrus organized our layout tours so that we could enjoy the modeling skills of our fellow club members. Ron Pederson served as roadmaster for the February show which was a big success. We also learned about Ron's skill with electricity in September. Gregory Motte served as trainmaster for the displays at the Lubbock Arts Festival in April. Ken Wiggins did a wonderful job arranging all of our activities to celebrate National Model Railroad Month in November. We did not lack for a variety of activities ranging from a tour of the Harvey House in Slaton to our wonderful trip to Amarillo, home layout tours in Lubbock, and then setting up the biggest display yet at the Science Spectrum at the end of November. Henry Crawford helped with arrangements at the Science Spectrum while Greg worked tirelessly (as always) as trainmaster and spent many hours talking with the visitors.

Again, my thanks to each and every member of the Board and to everyone who helped make 1995 a great year.
Nancy B. Reed
